Travelogue

A colleague of mine told me about a friend of his, Michael Benanav, who makes a living by going on hiking expeditions in remote places and then writing up his travelogues for the New York Times. Here are a couple of his absolutely fascinating adventures:

• A Nomad Among Nomads In Mongolia, published: October 5, 2003.

  (about a trip to the Eco-Escuela de Espanol in San Andres, Guatemala)
  

Apparently, he just got back from a 6-month trip with a camel-caravan on the historic Timbuktu salt road to the salt mines of Taudenni (in Mali), and there is a book in the offing about this expedition.
